Concerns Mount over Detention of VDM by EFCC
Concerns are mounting over the detention of Nigerian social media influencer, Martins Vincent Otse, also known as VeryDarkMan (VDM), by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC).
Family and friends of Very Dark Man have expressed alarm over the agency’s decision to deny them access to provide VDM with basic necessities, including food.
The controversy surrounding VDM’s arrest has sparked widespread outrage on social media, with many questioning the motive behind the EFCC’s actions.
According to VDM’s lawyer, Deji Adeyanju, the influencer was taken into custody by EFCC operatives on Friday, prompting an outpouring of support from his online followers.
In a disturbing turn of events, one of VDM’s close friends, Koko Pee, revealed that the EFCC had refused to allow him to deliver food to the detained influencer, citing a directive to provide for VDM’s needs themselves. This decision has raised concerns about the treatment of VDM while in custody and the potential for human rights violations.
The situation took a more ominous turn when Koko Pee reported that he had been informed of a standing order prohibiting anyone from visiting or providing food to VDM until Monday. This development has only served to heighten concerns about the influencer’s well-being and the EFCC’s handling of the situation.
Despite attempts to reach out to the EFCC for comment, the agency’s spokesperson, Dele Oyewale, was unavailable, and efforts to contact the commission through their social media channels were unsuccessful.
The silence from the EFCC has only added to the growing unease surrounding VDM’s detention, with many calling for greater transparency and accountability in the handling of the case.
