CBIAMEC Called for Shift Towards Renewable Energy
The Civil Society Organisations’ Budget Implementation, Assessment, Monitoring, and Evaluation Committee (CBIAMEC) has called for an immediate national shift towards renewable energy to address the country’s energy challenges.
The organization made this appeal during a press conference held yesterday in Abuja, themed “Powering Nigeria’s Future: Advocating for a National Shift Toward Renewable Energy for Sustainable Development.”
According to CBIAMEC Chairman, Splendour Agbonkpolor, the transition to renewable energy is crucial for a greener, more prosperous, and resilient future. Agbonkpolor emphasized the need for governments at all levels, the private sector, communities, and the media to support this shift, which he believes is essential for the country’s sustainable development.
The organization is urging policymakers to enact and enforce policies that promote clean energy development, citing the numerous benefits of renewable energy, including reduced carbon emissions, improved air quality, and enhanced energy security. Agbonkpolor stressed that a national transition to renewable energy would not only mitigate the effects of climate change but also create jobs, stimulate economic growth, and improve the overall well-being of Nigerians.
CBIAMEC’s call to action comes at a time when Nigeria is grappling with significant energy challenges, including power outages, fuel scarcity, and environmental degradation. The organization believes that a concerted effort to transition to renewable energy can help address these challenges and put the country on a path towards sustainable development.
In a statement, Agbonkpolor said, “The time to act is now. We must work together to transition to renewable energy and create a sustainable future for ourselves and future generations. We urge governments, private sector, communities, and the media to join us in this effort and support policies that promote clean energy development.”
The press conference was attended by representatives from various civil society organizations, media outlets, and stakeholders in the energy sector. CBIAMEC’s advocacy for a national shift towards renewable energy is expected to spark a national conversation on the importance of sustainable energy development in Nigeria.
