Nigerian Delegation off to Gabon for Nguema’s Inauguration
A Nigerian delegation has departed Abuja for Libreville, Gabon, to attend the inauguration of the country’s newly elected President, Brice Clotaire Oligui Nguema.
According to sources, the delegation was sent at the instance of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, who is committed to strengthening Nigeria’s bilateral ties with Gabon and promoting African unity.
President-elect Oligui Nguema, who has been serving as Gabon’s interim leader since August 2023, won the country’s presidential election held on April 12 with a decisive victory.
The inauguration ceremony, which is expected to be attended by high-level dignitaries from across Africa and beyond, marks the beginning of a new era in Gabonese politics.
The Nigerian delegation’s presence at the ceremony is seen as a gesture of goodwill and a show of support for the new Gabonese government as it begins its tenure.
Details of the delegation’s composition and the events lined up for the inauguration ceremony are still sketchy, but sources say that President Tinubu’s decision to send a delegation to Gabon underscores his administration’s priority on regional relationships and African unity.
