Wike Heads to China in Bid to Provide Water for FCT Satellite Towns
In a bid to fast-track the implementation of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) satellite towns water project, Minister of the FCT, Nyesom Wike, has embarked on an official visit to China. The Minister, who is currently in Dubai, United Arab Emirates, is en route to China, where he is scheduled to hold high-level meetings with officials of the China Geo-Engineering Corporation Overseas Construction Group.
The visit is a follow-up to the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) signed between the Nigerian government and the China Civil Engineering Construction Corporation (CCECC) and CGCOC Group during President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s visit to China in September 2024.
The MoU aims to improve electricity and water supply in the FCT, with a particular focus on providing potable water to the satellite towns.
According to sources, the Minister’s visit to China is part of efforts to implement President Tinubu’s directive to improve water supply in the FCT satellite towns, following his approval of ₦50 billion for the project.
The Minister will be focusing on the water supply projects in Gwagwalada, Kwali, and Kuje Area Councils, with the aim of ensuring that the residents of these areas have access to clean and safe drinking water.
This is the second time Minister Wike is visiting China in 2025, and he is expected to return to Nigeria next week after concluding his meetings with the CGCOC Group.
The Minister’s visit is seen as a significant step towards addressing the water supply challenges in the FCT satellite towns, and is expected to yield positive results for the benefit of the residents of these areas.
The FCT satellite towns water project is a critical component of the federal government’s efforts to improve the living standards of Nigerians, and the Minister’s visit to China is a demonstration of the government’s commitment to delivering on its promises. With the support of the Chinese government and the CGCOC Group, the FCT is poised to become a model for modern urban development in Nigeria, with access to clean water and sanitation being a top priority.
The Minister’s visit to China is also expected to strengthen the bilateral relationship between Nigeria and China, with a focus on cooperation in the areas of infrastructure development, trade, and investment.
The visit is a testament to the growing partnership between the two countries, and is expected to yield benefits for both nations in the long run.
As the Minister concludes his meetings in China, Nigerians are eagerly awaiting the outcomes of his visit, and are hopeful that the FCT satellite towns water project will soon become a reality.
With the Minister’s dedication and commitment to delivering on the project, there is no doubt that the residents of the FCT satellite towns will soon have access to clean and safe drinking water, and that the living standards of Nigerians will be significantly improved.
