Look at Performance, Not Sentiments, Give Tinubu Second Chance, Dogara Urges Nigerians
Former Speaker of the House of Representatives, Hon. Yakubu Dogara, has appealed to Nigerians to grant President Bola Ahmed Tinubu a second chance, emphasizing that judgment on his administration should be based on performance rather than political sentiment.
Dogara made this appeal during the 65th birthday celebration of Archbishop JohnPraise Daniel in Abuja.
The former Speaker acknowledged the socio-economic challenges many Nigerians currently face but maintained that President Tinubu deserves the benefit of time and support to deliver on his mandate.
“I want a situation where the President can win by the power of his example, not by the example of his power,” Dogara said, underscoring his belief that good governance and impactful leadership, not force or manipulation, should earn Tinubu a second term.
He commended Tinubu’s bold decision to uphold the removal of fuel subsidies, a controversial but widely regarded necessary economic reform. While the policy has triggered inflation and increased hardship for many, Dogara noted that it represents a commitment to long-term structural change.
Dogara’s remarks were echoed by other dignitaries at the event, including Pastor John Dara and Archbishop JohnPraise Daniel himself, who credited the Tinubu administration with improving infrastructure, raising national revenue, and taking significant steps to address insecurity.
The former Speaker’s call comes amid growing public discontent and political opposition to some of the president’s policies. Yet, his appeal for patience and fair evaluation suggests a desire to shift national discourse from partisan critique to policy assessment.
President Tinubu, elected in 2023, is in the second year of his first term. As debates over 2027 begin to stir within political circles, Dogara’s comments signal an early attempt to shape the narrative around Tinubu’s legacy and future.
