PDP Governors Begged Tinubu for Federal Appointments, Alleges Wike, Defends Support for President

The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has stirred fresh controversy within the People’s Democratic Party (PDP), openly challenging his party colleagues to deny their involvement in nominating individuals for federal appointments under the current All Progressives Congress (APC)-led government.

Speaking in an interview on Tuesday, Wike declared that several PDP governors had indeed written letters recommending individuals for appointments under President Bola Tinubu’s administration, despite public posturing against the ruling party.

“I challenge anybody, anybody, anybody, who is a governor of PDP that said he never wrote any letter to this government for social people to be appointed under this government.

“Has anybody come to challenge me? Nobody has come to challenge me,”Wike said emphatically.

He claimed to have documentary evidence — including photocopies — of such letters, daring any PDP governor to publicly refute his claims.

“Let any one governor come up to say, you are telling lies. I never wrote. I photocopied and I will show the world,” he dared them.

Wike, who has faced criticism from PDP leadership over his perceived closeness to the APC and his ongoing role in Tinubu’s cabinet, dismissed threats of party discipline. “Who are these people coming to say they will discipline? Discipline who? Who discipline who?” he asked rhetorically, ridiculing internal party critics.

He further insisted that his loyalty lies with President Tinubu, not with party politics. “I’m not here to work for a party. I’m here to support the president who has confidence in me to help him.”

The remarks are expected to deepen the rift within the PDP, where Wike has long been a polarizing figure, especially following his fallout with party leadership after the 2023 presidential primaries.

His latest comments may provoke responses from governors and further complicate efforts to maintain unity within the opposition party.
