EFCC Restates that Spraying of Monies in Occasions is Against the Law
The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has reminded Nigerians that spraying of the naira or any other currency at parties and events is against the law.
In a public awareness campaign, the anti-graft agency cautioned citizens to celebrate responsibly and avoid fines by desisting from this practice.
According to the EFCC, the spraying of currency notes at parties and events is not only disrespectful to the national currency but also constitutes a breach of the law. The agency advised that instead of spraying money, guests who wish to give cash gifts to celebrants should do so by dropping the money into a basket, bowl, or container placed in front of the person being celebrated.
The EFCC warned that ignorance of the law would not be accepted as an excuse for violating this regulation, emphasizing that it is the responsibility of all citizens to be aware of and abide by the laws of the land.
The agency urged Nigerians to be mindful of their actions and to celebrate responsibly, without resorting to practices that undermine the dignity of the national currency.
This reminder by the EFCC is a timely one, as the practice of spraying money at parties and events has become a common feature of Nigerian celebrations.
However, with the agency’s warning, it is expected that Nigerians will take heed and adjust their behavior to comply with the law.
In a statement, the EFCC reiterated its commitment to enforcing the laws of the land and protecting the integrity of the national currency.
The agency called on all Nigerians to join hands in promoting a culture of respect for the naira and adherence to the law, adding that together, we can build a more responsible and law-abiding society.
By spreading awareness about the illegality of spraying money at parties, the EFCC hopes to educate Nigerians on the importance of treating the national currency with respect and dignity.
- As the agency continues to work towards a more corrupt-free society, it is essential that citizens play their part by celebrating responsibly and avoiding practices that undermine the law.
