Senate Leader Bamidele Donates Vehicles For Take-off of New Federal University in Iyin-Ekiti

In a major boost to the newly established Federal University of Technology and Environmental Sciences (FUTES) in Iyin-Ekiti, the Senate Leader, Senator Michael Opeyemi Bamidele, has donated a fleet of vehicles to support the smooth commencement of academic and administrative operations at the institution.

The donation, made on Wednesday in Abuja, includes two coaster buses, one Toyota Hilux pickup truck, two tricycles, and two dispatch motorcycles. These vehicles are expected to greatly enhance the university’s logistics, mobility, and internal operations as it prepares to open its doors to students later this year.

Speaking at the handover event, Senator Bamidele stated that the gesture was part of his broader commitment to strengthening educational infrastructure in Ekiti State and across Nigeria.

He noted that as a key advocate for the establishment of FUTES, he remains dedicated to ensuring that the university not only commences operations on a solid footing but also emerges as a leading institution in the country’s higher education sector.

FUTES, approved by the Federal Government in 2023 following Senator Bamidele’s persistent lobbying, is Nigeria’s first specialized university focused on both technology and environmental sciences.

It is expected to begin academic activities in September 2025 and aims to contribute significantly to national development through cutting-edge research, innovation, and manpower training in environmental sustainability and applied sciences.

The Ekiti State Government has expressed deep appreciation for Senator Bamidele’s contributions.

Governor Biodun Oyebanji praised the senator’s unwavering support for education and described the donation as timely and impactful.

“This gesture will go a long way in addressing some of the immediate logistical needs of the university,” the governor stated, adding that the state remains committed to supporting the institution’s long-term growth.

The Vice-Chancellor-designate of FUTES, Professor Oluyemi Ajayi, also commended the donation, describing it as a “clear demonstration of leadership and vision.”

He assured stakeholders that the vehicles would be put to optimal use in supporting administrative and academic activities.

The donation underscores the importance of collaborative partnerships between government institutions and public-spirited individuals in fostering sustainable educational development. With this support, FUTES is poised for a smooth take-off, laying the foundation for excellence in research, teaching, and community impact.
