Portable Convicted for Assault on Policeman, Jailed 3 months

A Chief Magistrate Court in Ifo, Ogun State, has handed down a three months prison sentence to a popular musician, Habeeb Okikiola, aka Portable, for his involvement in a violent altercation with a police officer.

The incident occurred in November 2022, when Portable physically attacked a police inspector who was attempting to serve him an arrest warrant. The musician’s actions were deemed a serious offense, and he was subsequently charged with assault and resisting arrest.

The prosecution, led by Inspector Olumide Awoleke, presented a strong case against Portable, outlining the events that led to his arrest in March 2023.

According to the charge sheet, Portable and others conspired to commit a felony, including assault, which is punishable under the Criminal Code Laws of Ogun State. Additionally, the musician was accused of stealing musical equipment, including a studio monitor, interface connection cable, and the condenser, valued at an undisclosed amount.

The court, under the trial Chief Magistrate Babajide Ilo, found Portable guilty of the charges brought against him.
