Tinubu Plotting One-Party State Through Bribery, Coercion, Labour Party Alleges
The Labour Party (LP) has accused President Bola Tinubu and the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) of working to transform Nigeria into a one-party state by using blackmail, bribery, and coercion.
Marcel Ngogbehei, LP’s Director-General of Mobilization and Integration, alleged that the APC is deliberately instigating internal conflicts within opposition parties, particularly in the northern and eastern regions, in a bid to weaken them ahead of the 2027 general elections.
According to him, the ultimate goal is to position President Tinubu as a consensus candidate by either compromising or absorbing rival political groups.
Ngogbehei also accused the APC of exploiting the worsening economic hardship across the country to manipulate voters, claiming that the ruling party plans to use food and small cash handouts to buy loyalty from struggling Nigerians.
He warned that these tactics mirror strategies used during Nigeria’s more authoritarian past and urged citizens to resist any attempts to undermine democratic governance.
Similarly, Kola Ologbondiyan, a chieftain of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP), echoed the concerns, accusing the Tinubu administration of eroding democratic principles and pushing Nigeria dangerously close to a one-party system. He pointed to recent political developments and security interventions as evidence of this growing trend.
As of now, neither the APC nor President Tinubu has issued a formal response to these serious allegations. However, the claims have intensified debates over the future of Nigeria’s democracy as preparations for the 2027 elections gather pace.
