Cyclist Loses Life in Ikeja Fatal Truck Collision

A cyclist tragically lost his life on Sunday after a fatal collision with a truck in the Ikeja area of Lagos State.
The incident occurred at the Alausa Bus Stop, near Kudirat Abiola Way, along the busy Obafemi Awolowo Way. According to eyewitnesses, the cyclist was reportedly wearing an earpiece and engaged in a phone conversation when he attempted to maneuver across the expressway. In the process, he collided with a moving truck.
Officials from the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA) arrived swiftly at the scene to manage the situation and control traffic. The cyclist, whose identity has not yet been released, was pronounced dead at the scene after sustaining severe head injuries.
Personnel from the Alausa Police Division also responded promptly, removing the body and transferring it to the General Hospital mortuary in Ikeja.
Speaking on the incident, LASTMA General Manager, Mr. Olalekan Bakare-Oki, expressed deep condolences to the deceased’s family. He also issued a renewed call for road safety awareness, particularly among cyclists.
“This unfortunate accident reminds us all of the need to stay fully attentive while on the road,” Bakare-Oki said. “We urge all cyclists and motorists to avoid any distractions, including the use of mobile devices, and to always wear appropriate protective gear.”
Authorities are continuing investigations into the exact circumstances surrounding the crash.
