Back Tinubu for 2027 Presidency, Kalu Pleads with Igbo
Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives, Benjamin Kalu, has called on the Igbo to rally behind President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s re-election bid in 2027, describing the president as a leader with genuine intentions for Nigeria’s growth.
Speaking in Umuahia during a meeting with the Tinubu Mandate Support Group and Club 17 Initiative, Kalu praised Tinubu’s commitment to national development, stating that the president is “intentional about Nigeria” and has initiated reforms aimed at improving the country’s economic and political landscape. He urged Igbos to “invest their votes where there is progress,” stressing that Tinubu’s leadership has already begun to bring greater inclusion and relevance to the South-East.
Kalu, who revealed that he personally encouraged Tinubu to run for president, said his long-standing relationship with the president is based on shared values and mutual trust.
“He believed in me even before I met him personally. That’s the kind of leader we need one who sees potential and invests in people,” he said.
The deputy speaker further assured that the All Progressives Congress (APC) would make significant strides in the South-East ahead of 2027, both at the presidential and gubernatorial levels. He expressed confidence that with continued grassroots mobilization, the region would play a decisive role in Tinubu’s re-election.
Meanwhile, leaders of the Tinubu Mandate Support Group and Club 17 Initiative pledged to intensify efforts at the community level to sensitize voters about Tinubu’s achievements and plans, emphasizing that the South-East stands to gain more under his administration.
Kalu’s endorsement comes amid ongoing debates about the future of the Igbo presidency, with some voices within the region calling for a power shift. However, Kalu maintains that supporting Tinubu’s second term is a strategic move to secure the South-East’s political future.
