APC Demands Apology from VeryDarkMan over Akpabio

The All Progressives Congress (APC) has issued a stern warning to social media influencer Martins Vincent Otse, also known as VeryDarkMan, to apologize within seven days over his recent comments against Senate President Godswill Akpabio.

The APC’s South-South Zonal chapter condemned VeryDarkMan’s statements, describing them as “disparaging” and “unwarranted.”

In a viral video, VeryDarkMan had criticized Senate President Akpabio for attending the funeral of Pope Francis in Rome, while Nigeria was grappling with insecurity and violence in several states. VeryDarkMan argued that Akpabio should have been visiting affected communities to offer condolences instead of traveling abroad.

However, the APC has taken umbrage with VeryDarkMan’s comments, accusing him of “blackmail, slander, and character assassination.” In a statement issued by the Zonal Organizing Secretary, Blessing Agbomhere, the APC defended Akpabio’s trip to Rome, stating that he was nominated by President Tinubu to lead a delegation to represent Nigeria at the Pope’s funeral.

The APC statement read, “VeryDarkMan is becoming notorious for blackmail, slander, and character assassination while pretending to be an advocate for the masses and a social crusader. The unwarranted verbal attack on the number three citizen of Nigeria, who did not send himself to Rome but was duly nominated by the President to lead a delegation to represent Nigeria — what exactly is wrong with that?”

The APC also pointed out that President Tinubu had recently met with security chiefs and given them “marching orders” to tackle insecurity in the country. The party argued that this demonstrated the President’s commitment to addressing the security challenges facing Nigeria.

The controversy surrounding Akpabio’s trip to Rome began when it was announced that he would lead a high-level Nigerian delegation to attend the Pope’s funeral. The delegation included several prominent figures, including Minister of State for Foreign Affairs Ambassador Bianca Odumegwu Ojukwu and Catholic bishops.

VeryDarkMan’s comments sparked a heated debate on social media, with some Nigerians agreeing with his views and others defending Akpabio’s right to represent Nigeria at the Pope’s funeral.

As the deadline for VeryDarkMan’s apology approaches, it remains to be seen how the social media influencer will respond to the APC’s demands. Will he apologize and retract his comments, or will he stand by his views and risk facing further backlash from the APC and its supporters?
