10 Vigilantes Killed By Suspected Boko Haram Terrorists at Kwapre

Ten members of a local vigilante group were killed on Saturday night when suspected Boko Haram terrorists launched a brutal attack on Kwapre, a community in Hong Local Government Area of Adamawa State.
Eyewitnesses said the attackers stormed the village in large numbers, armed with sophisticated weapons, and engaged the vigilantes in a fierce gun battle. The vigilantes, who were stationed to protect the community, were reportedly overwhelmed by the firepower of the insurgents.
“We heard heavy gunshots around midnight. They came prepared and attacked the vigilantes directly,” a resident told reporters under the condition of anonymity.
“Ten of our brave men who have been protecting us lost their lives, ” he lamented.
Local security sources confirmed the attack, stating that reinforcements have been deployed to the area to prevent further assaults. However, no arrests have been made as the attackers fled into nearby forests after the incident.
The Chairman of Hong Local Government Area, in a brief statement, condemned the attack and described the slain vigilantes as heroes who paid the ultimate price defending their community.
Kwapre and other parts of Hong LGA have remained vulnerable to insurgent attacks despite efforts by security forces to stabilize the region. The latest incident has heightened fears among residents, many of whom are calling for increased military presence and support for community-based security outfits.
As of the time of filing this report, the Adamawa State Police Command and military authorities are yet to release an official statement regarding the attack.
This latest assault highlights the ongoing threat posed by Boko Haram insurgents in the northeastern region of Nigeria, particularly in rural communities with limited government protection.
