Former IG Declares Governorship Bid Under APC in Nasarawa

Former Inspector-General of Police, Mohammed Abubakar Adamu, has officially declared his intention to run for the governorship of Nasarawa State in the 2027 general elections on the platform of the All Progressives Congress (APC).
The announcement was made during a meeting with members of the State Working Committee of the APC held in Lafia, the state capital.
According to sources close to the former IGP, Adamu’s decision to join the gubernatorial race was driven by a “clarion call” from the people of Nasarawa, who believe in his leadership capabilities and experience.
Adamu, who served as IGP from 2019 to 2021 under the Muhammadu Buhari administration, is said to have been persuaded by the overwhelming support and encouragement he received from various stakeholders in the state.
“I am answering the call of my people who believe I can serve and move Nasarawa forward,” Adamu stated during his declaration.
“My administration, by the grace of God, will be inclusive, transparent, and focused on delivering tangible development across all sectors,” he declared.
Adamu’s declaration has sent shockwaves throughout the state’s political landscape, with many analysts predicting a highly competitive gubernatorial race in 2027.
The former IGP’s entry into the race has added a significant name to the growing list of aspirants eyeing the governorship seat, which is currently occupied by incumbent Governor Abdullahi Sule, who is serving his second term in office under the APC.
As the 2027 general elections draw near, political observers are predicting an intense battle for the governorship seat, with Adamu’s candidacy expected to pose a significant challenge to other aspirants.
The former IGP’s reputation as a seasoned administrator and his experience in security matters are seen as major strengths, which could potentially sway voters in his favor.
However, Adamu will face stiff competition from other aspirants, including those from within the APC, who may also be vying for the party’s ticket. The outcome of the primary election is expected to be closely contested, with the winner likely to face a tough challenge from candidates of other political parties in the general election.
