Rivers Police Arrest Man Who Killed Reverend Sister He Couldn’t Repay Her Debt

The Rivers State Police Command has confirmed the arrest of one Kelvin Okoro in connection with the alleged murder of a Reverend Sister, reportedly over an unresolved financial dispute.

According to preliminary investigations Okoro is believed to have attacked and killed the nun following a disagreement related to an unpaid debt. The tragic incident has shocked the community and drawn widespread condemnation from religious groups and civil society organizations across the state.

Spokesperson for the Rivers State Police Command, SP Grace Iringe-Koko, stated that officers swiftly acted on intelligence that led to the arrest of the suspect.

She added that the suspect is currently in police custody and undergoing interrogation.

“The Command is committed to ensuring justice is served in this matter. We urge members of the public to remain calm as we conclude our investigations,” Iringe-Koko said.

The deceased, Reverend Sister Maureen Wecheonwu was a respected member of her religious order and had been serving the community for many years.

Religious leaders have called for a thorough investigation and urged the authorities to ensure justice is done. “This is not only a crime against a person but an attack on peace and compassion, which she stood for,” said Father Emmanuel Obi, a spokesperson for the local diocese.

Police have assured the public that all findings will be made known in due course and urged anyone with relevant information to come forward.

The incident adds to growing concerns about personal security and the need for better conflict resolution mechanisms, especially in matters involving personal finance.
