President Tinubu Orders Overhaul of National Security Strategy to Stem Killings

In a bid to address the rising wave of violence in several states across Nigeria, President Bola Tinubu has directed a comprehensive review and overhaul of the country’s national security strategy.
The President’s directive comes on the heels of a meeting with security chiefs at the State House in Abuja, where he expressed deep concern over the killing of innocent citizens in Borno, Benue, Plateau, and Kwara States.
During the meeting, President Tinubu emphasized the need for a new approach to tackle the insecurity plaguing the country, saying “Enough is enough.”
The President’s frustration and determination to bring an end to the violence were palpable, as he acknowledged the devastating impact of the attacks on the affected communities.
According to the National Security Adviser, Nuhu Ribadu, the service chiefs briefed the President on the recent attacks in the affected states, including the death toll and destruction of properties. Ribadu noted that President Tinubu has ordered a fresh strategy to be implemented, one that will involve a more collaborative approach with local councils and state governments.
The NSA acknowledged that despite ongoing efforts, the country still faces significant security challenges. However, he reassured that the President is committed to sustaining lasting peace and security in Nigeria.
The involvement of local councils and state governments in tackling security challenges is seen as a crucial aspect of the new strategy, as it will enable a more targeted and effective response to the unique security needs of each region.
As the country grapples with the complexities of insecurity, President Tinubu’s directive marks a significant shift in the government’s approach to addressing the issue. The overhaul of the national security strategy is expected to yield a more cohesive and effective response to the challenges facing the country, and Nigerians will be watching closely to see the impact of this new approach. With the President’s commitment to ending the violence and restoring peace, there is a sense of hope that a more secure future is within reach.
