APC National Secretary Dismisses Claims of One-Party State Allegations

The National Secretary of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Senator Ajibola Basiru, has vehemently denied assertions that the ruling party is maneuvering to establish a one-party system in Nigeria.
Speaking on Channels Television’s Politics Today, Basiru defended the APC’s political activities and dismissed allegations of state-backed intimidation of opposition parties.
The development comes on the heels of defection from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the APC in Delta State, where Governor Sheriff Oborevwori, his deputy, and former Governor Ifeanyi Okowa, along with commissioners and key stakeholders, joined the ruling party.
Basiru questioned the logic behind the claims, stating that the country’s policies and direction are not solely determined by the APC. He attributed Nigeria’s challenges to the lack of seriousness and dedication among opposition parties, emphasizing that the ruling party cannot compensate for the opposition’s shortcomings.
The APC National Secretary also challenged the media to scrutinize the inactivity of opposition parties, contrasting it with the APC’s efforts to build a robust, grassroots structure across the country.
He highlighted the party’s commitment to establishing a functional and efficient party structure in every ward, local government, and state, under the leadership of Abdullahi Ganduje.
Basiru’s remarks underscore the APC’s confidence in its political agenda and its determination to strengthen its presence across Nigeria. The APC’s ongoing efforts to build a robust party structure are seen as a key aspect of its strategy to engage with Nigerians and promote its vision for the country’s future.
