You are to Die By Hanging, Kano Court Sentences 22 Year Old for Killing Stepmother, Sister

A Kano High Court has sentenced a 22-year-old Abubakar Sadiq, to death by hanging for the murder of his stepmother and sister.

The trial court, under Justice Muhammad Yahaya, delivered the verdict on Wednesday, after finding Sadiq guilty of the crime.

According to the prosecution, Sadiq had attacked and killed his stepmother, Hajiya Amina, and his sister, Fatima, in their family home in 2020.

The motive behind the crime was reportedly a long-standing feud between Sadiq and his stepmother, who had been at odds over family matters.

The prosecution had presented a robust case, calling several witnesses who testified against the accused. The defense, on the other hand, argued that Sadiq was not in his right mind at the time of the incident and should be spared the death penalty.

However, the court found Sadiq guilty of the crime and sentenced him to death by hanging.

The verdict has been widely welcomed by the community, with many expressing relief that justice has been served.

“This is a victory for the families of the victims,” said a neighbor, who wished to remain anonymous. “The accused showed no remorse for his actions, and it’s only fitting that he faces the full weight of the law.”

The Kano State Government has also commended the court for its verdict, saying it will serve as a deterrent to others who may be contemplating similar crimes.
