Shettima Calls for Peace, Political Tolerance in Kano

Vice President Kashim Shettima has urged political leaders and residents of Kano State to embrace peace and political tolerance in the face of rising political tension in the state.
During a visit to Kano the Vice President emphasized the importance of unity and the need to put national interest above political rivalry.
Shettima stated that democracy thrives on diversity of opinions but warned against allowing political differences to fuel division and unrest.
“In every democratic setting, differences are expected, but these differences must not degenerate into conflict,” Shettima said. “Kano holds a unique place in Nigeria’s history and must continue to lead by example in promoting peace and political maturity.”
The Vice President’s visit comes amid heightened political activities and disagreements among key stakeholders in Kano’s political landscape.
Observers say the call for calm is timely and necessary to avoid potential escalation.
Shettima also appealed to political actors to show restraint and allow the law to take its course in any disputes, stressing that peaceful engagement and dialogue remain the best tools for resolving conflicts.
“We must never allow our political affiliations to tear us apart,” he said. “Kano’s strength lies in its unity, culture, and leadership. The nation is watching, and Kano must continue to be a beacon of peace and progress.”
He further encouraged traditional rulers, community leaders, and religious institutions to play a proactive role in fostering harmony among diverse political and ethnic groups in the state.
The Vice President assured that the federal government remains committed to supporting peace-building efforts across the country, particularly in politically sensitive areas.
Local leaders and citizens have welcomed Shettima’s message, with many describing it as a timely intervention aimed at preserving Kano’s legacy of leadership and peaceful coexistence.
