Enugu APC Worry Over Insecurity in Uzor Uwani,.Isi Uzor

The All Progressives Congress (APC) in Enugu State has expressed concern over the escalating insecurity in the state, particularly in Uzo-Uwani and Isi-Uzo local government areas.

The party has condemned the state government’s apparent inaction and efforts to suppress news of the killings, kidnappings, and violent attacks on local communities.

In a communique issued on Sunday following a stakeholders’ meeting on Saturday, the APC stated that the Peter Mbah-led government has failed in its primary duty of protecting the lives and property of citizens of Enugu State. The party criticized the government’s Command and Control Centre, saying it has not resolved security breaches beyond 10 kilometers from the capital city, leaving rural areas vulnerable to killer herdsmen and other criminals.

“The huge population of citizens in the rural areas are left at the mercy of killer herdsmen and other criminals,” the party stated. “The government’s inaction is unacceptable, and we demand immediate action to address the security challenges facing the state.”

The APC stakeholders’ meeting, which welcomed new members, also commended the Minister of Innovation, Science, and Technology, Chief Uche Nnaji, for attracting federal government projects and employment opportunities to the state. However, the party’s focus was on the pressing issue of insecurity, which has plagued the state in recent times.

Just last Friday, eight people, including a traditional priestess, were kidnapped by gunmen in Ohebe Orba in Udenu Local Government Area of Enugu State. This recent abduction almost coincided with the release of 15 abductees at Ibagwa Agu farm settlement in Nsukka Local Government Area of the state, after they were freed on Thursday, April 17, 2025.

The APC also noted with regret the incessant kidnappings and killings in other parts of the state, especially along Ugwogo-Nike-Opi-Nsukka Road. The party condemned the state government’s efforts to suppress news of the killings, saying that such actions only embolden the perpetrators and undermine the confidence of the people in the government.

According to Senator Okey Ezea, who represents Enugu North Senatorial District, “kidnappers and Fulani herdsmen have taken over Enugu North Senatorial Zone, including Nsukka.” The senator’s statement highlights the gravity of the situation, which has left many communities in a state of fear and uncertainty.

In Eha-Amufu, for instance, 44 farm settlements, otherwise known as Ndiagu, had been sacked, and residents are now squatting in neighboring communities. The APC has called on the state government to take immediate action to address the security challenges facing the state, including the deployment of more security personnel to the affected areas and the provision of support to the victims of the attacks.
