Zamfara Lawmaker Awards N26.8 Million Scholarship to 670 Undergraduates
A member of the House of Representatives, Abdulmalik Zubairu, has awarded scholarships worth N26.8 million to 670 undergraduate students in his constituency.
Zubairu, who represents the Bungudu and Maru Federal Constituency under the All Progressives Congress (APC), made the gesture as part of his ongoing commitment to uplifting education standards in Zamfara State.
The scholarship disbursement ceremony took place on Saturday in Bungudu town. The lawmaker, who was represented by the chairman of his scholarship committee, Muhammad Adamu, explained that the initiative was one of several interventions aimed at empowering youth and easing the financial burdens of tertiary education. Each beneficiary received a grant of N40,000.
All recipients are students of the Federal University Gusau, pursuing various academic disciplines. The support is expected to help students tackle financial obstacles such as tuition fees, textbooks, and other essential academic needs.
Speaking on behalf of the beneficiaries, Nafiu Lawal, a 400-level student, expressed deep appreciation for the scholarship. He noted that many students, particularly those from less privileged backgrounds, are facing economic hardship, and this intervention would provide much-needed relief.
“We are truly grateful to Hon. Abdulmalik Zubairu for this support. It will go a long way in reducing the financial pressure on us and our families,” Lawal stated.
The lawmaker urged the students to make good use of the opportunity by staying focused on their studies and striving for academic excellence.
This scholarship scheme marks a continued effort by Zubairu to invest in human capital and improve access to education in Zamfara, a state that has long faced socioeconomic challenges. His gesture has been widely praised by community leaders and stakeholders who see education as a key tool for long-term development and peacebuilding in the region.
