Sowore Accuses Nigerian Police of Plotting to Detain TikToker Over Comments About Pastor Adeboye

Omoyele Sowore, a prominent Nigerian activist and former presidential candidate, has raised concerns that the Nigeria Police Force plans to detain popular TikTok personality Ogunsanwo Olumide John, also known as @Seaking303.

The accusation comes in connection with controversial remarks allegedly made by @Seaking303 about Pastor Enoch Adeboye, the General Overseer of the Redeemed Christian Church of God (RCCG).

On Saturday, Sowore shared a post on his verified X (formerly Twitter) account, revealing that a meeting originally set for April 21 had been postponed by the police to April 25.

“The @PoliceNG has
rescheduled the
meeting between me
standing as surety
for TikToker
@Seaking303 — and
their team regarding
his comments on
@PastorEAAdeboye of
@rccghq,” Sowore

wrote.

“Since Monday is a public holiday for Easter, we’ve agreed with @PoliceNG to push the meeting to Friday.”

Sowore, who is the leader of the #RevolutionNow movement, speculated that the rescheduling could be a deliberate attempt by the police to detain the TikToker over the weekend.
“I know the move by
the @PoliceNG in
calling @Seaking303
in on Friday is
designed to detain
him and prevent his
release until the
following week,” he
said.
“Any violation of his rights will be met with resistance. We will continue to fight! #EgbetokunMustGo”

He further confirmed that the protest initially planned for Monday will now take place on Friday, in line with the new police meeting date.

The official police notice provided to Sowore read: “I have been directed
to inform you that
your earlier suggested
date of 21/04/2025
has been rescheduled
for Friday,
25/04/2025. Thank
you.”

The situation began when @Seaking303, a well-followed TikToker, made remarks on social media that some considered offensive to Pastor Adeboye. In response, the police invited him for questioning, and Sowore has been involved in supporting the TikToker throughout the process.

The incident is part of growing criticism of the Nigeria Police Force under Inspector-General Kayode Egbetokun, who has been accused of human rights abuses, particularly using the Cybercrime Act to stifle online dissent. Calls for Egbetokun’s resignation have increased amid allegations of police brutality and the shrinking of Nigeria’s civic space.

The developments highlight the ongoing tension between government authorities and critics, especially those using social media platforms to express their views.
