House Collapses, Traps Many in Ojodu, Lagos

A devastating incident occurred on Saturday morning in the Ojodu area of Lagos, as an uncompleted storey building collapsed, leaving several people trapped under the rubble.

The building, is located on Oremeta Street, Ojodu.

According to eyewitnesses, the building, which was still under construction, gave way at around 9:00 am, sending panicked screams and cries for help into the air.

The cause of the collapse is yet to be determined, but officials suspect that structural defects and possible negligence may have contributed to the disaster.

Emergency response teams, including the Lagos State Emergency Management Agency (LASEMA), the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA), and the Lagos State Fire Service, were quickly deployed to the scene to rescue those trapped under the debris.

The collapse of the building has raised concerns about the safety of buildings in the state, particularly those under construction.

Residents of the area have called on the government to take urgent action to address the issue of substandard buildings and ensure that developers adhere to building codes and regulations.

As rescue efforts continue, the people of Ojodu and Lagos State as a whole are left to pick up the pieces and mourn the loss of life. The incident serves as a stark reminder of the importance of prioritizing safety and adhering to building standards to prevent such tragedies from occurring in the future.
