Police.Deny Arrest of Boko Haram Terrorists in Lagos

The Lagos State Police Command has refuted a report published by Punch Newspaper today, claiming the arrest of hundreds of suspected Boko Haram members within the state.
Commissioner of Police, Olohundare Jimoh, launched an immediate investigation following the publication, and the findings indicate the report is entirely unfounded.
According to a statement released by Police Public Relations Officer, CSP Benjamin Hundeyin, a thorough inquiry, including deployments of surveillance teams and intelligence operatives to locations mentioned in the report – specifically within trailer park communities – yielded no evidence to support the claims. Leaders, operators, and drivers in these areas also confirmed they had not witnessed or heard of any arrests of individuals linked to the extremist group.
“The report in its entirety is false, malicious, and ill-intended to cause unwarranted fear and apprehension amongst the public,” the statement reads. The Command has urged citizens to disregard the report as a “figment of the imagination” and continue their daily activities without concern.
The police have called on the media to exercise greater responsibility and verify information before publication, warning against the spread of fake news that could disrupt the peace and security currently enjoyed in Lagos State. The author of the initial report has been advised to prioritize factual accuracy in future reporting.
CP Jimoh assures Lagos residents that the police remain dedicated to maintaining public safety and protecting life and property. He encourages the public to report any suspicious activity to the nearest police station.
“Lagosians are encouraged to go about their duties and other means of livelihood without fear,” the statement concludes, reaffirming the Command’s commitment to a secure environment for all residents.
