Anambra State Governor’s Aide Raises the Alarm Over Infiltration of State Security Outfit by Criminals

Ken Emeakayi, the Special Adviser to the Anambra State Governor on community security, has sounded the alarm over the infiltration of the state’s security outfit, “Agunechemba”, by criminals.
According to Emeakayi, some individuals posing as Agunechemba operatives have been involved in robbery, kidnapping, and extortion, undermining the trust of residents in the security system.
The Agunechemba outfit was launched by Governor Chukwuma Soludo in January, along with “Operation Udo-ga-chi”, to complement the efforts of the police in safeguarding residents amid growing insecurity in the state. However, Emeakayi has expressed disappointment over the infiltration of criminal elements into the Agunechemba ranks, which has led to a breakdown in trust between the security outfit and the community.
In a verified voice note circulated across the state, Emeakayi assured residents that a comprehensive verification process is underway to identify and remove individuals who are tarnishing the agency’s image. He emphasized that Agunechemba operatives are not authorized to mount roadblocks or checkpoints, and that their primary role is to protect residents, not to extort or harass them.
Emeakayi warned that anyone claiming to be a security operative without undergoing proper profiling will henceforth be treated as a criminal. He urged residents to stay vigilant and report any suspicious activity, not just by known criminals, but also by questionable members of the security outfit.
The Anambra State government has reiterated its commitment to restoring public trust in the security system and maintaining law and order across communities. Emeakayi emphasized that the government will take all necessary measures to ensure that the security system is transparent, accountable, and effective in protecting residents.
