Buhari’s Allies Pass Vote of Confidence on President Tinubu

In a show of solidarity and national unity, close allies of former President Muhammadu Buhari, alongside other prominent members of the National Council of State, have passed a vote of confidence in the leadership of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.

The meeting, held at the Presidential Villa in Abuja, brought together key political figures, including former Presidents Muhammadu Buhari and Goodluck Jonathan, both of whom were in attendance. Former Heads of State Yakubu Gowon and Abdulsalami Abubakar joined virtually. The Council, which includes former leaders, governors, and other high-ranking government officials, unanimously expressed satisfaction with the Tinubu administration’s performance so far.

Speaking after the meeting, Kwara State Governor and Chairman of the Nigeria Governors’ Forum, Abdulrahman Abdulrazaq, stated that the Council was impressed with briefings from various ministries, especially in areas of economic reform and national development.

“This vote of confidence is a clear signal that President Tinubu is steering the country in the right direction,” Abdulrazaq said. “There’s a collective belief in his vision and the current efforts to address the nation’s challenges.”

The meeting also addressed recent protests over food insecurity and economic hardship. Members of the Council denounced the unrest, labeling it as an attempt to undermine democratic governance. Minister of Solid Minerals Development, Dr. Dele Alake, warned that any attempt to change government through unconstitutional means would not be tolerated, stressing that leadership transitions must occur through the ballot box.

However, notable absentees from the meeting were former Presidents Olusegun Obasanjo and Ibrahim Babangida. No official reasons were given for their absence.

The endorsement from Buhari’s allies and other senior statesmen comes at a critical time, as the Tinubu administration faces mounting public pressure. The vote of confidence, analysts say, may help boost morale within the government and reassure investors and international partners of Nigeria’s political stability.

As President Tinubu continues to implement his “Renewed Hope” agenda, the support from past leaders and key political actors is likely to strengthen his mandate and give fresh momentum to his reform efforts.
