Wike Not Responsible for PDP’s Challenges, Says Dan Orbih

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) National Vice Chairman for the South-South zone. Chief Dan Orbih has stated that Nyesom Wike, Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, should not be blamed for the party’s internal challenges.

Speaking at the inauguration of a newly built PDP state secretariat in Benin City a project he personally funded Orbih pointed out that the root of the party’s issues lies in the actions of individuals who frequently pursue the presidential ticket without following due process.

“Wike is not the cause
of PDP’s problems. The real issues come from
those who repeatedly
seek the presidency
without respecting the
party’s constitution,” Orbih said.

He urged Acting National Chairman, Ambassador Iliya Damagun, to begin grassroots congresses to elect trustworthy party leaders capable of repositioning the PDP ahead of future elections.

Orbih also addressed the situation in Edo State, strongly criticizing former Governor Godwin Obaseki for weakening the party’s structure in the state. He emphasized that anyone who contributed to the damage should not be involved in rebuilding efforts.

“Obaseki’s
administration
dismantled the PDP in
Edo, and those who
helped him should not
be part of its revival,”
Orbih said.

On the issue of Wike’s role in the APC-led federal government, Orbih clarified that the former Rivers State Governor obtained approval from PDP leadership before accepting the ministerial role, framing it as a service to the nation rather than a betrayal.

The Benin City event was attended by key party figures and supporters, signaling renewed efforts to revitalize the PDP across the South-South region.
