IGP Announces Arrest of High-Profile Suspects in Plateau Killings, Renew Strategy to Check Situation
The Inspector-General of Police, Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun, has announced the arrest of two high profile suspects in the Jos killings which he condemned as “senseless, utterly reprehensible, and a grave assault on national peace and security.”
In a statement from the Force Headquarters in Abuja on Wednesday after on the spot visit to the area by Egbetokun, the police expressed deep sorrow over the tragic loss of lives, the police chief disclosed that two high-profile suspects have been arrested in connection with the violent attacks in Bokkos Local Government Area.
The individuals are currently aiding police investigations,.the statement said.
“The Nigeria Police Force is diligently working to uncover the motives behind these attacks, and to identify and apprehend other suspects involved in the killings,” the statement read.
In a move to restore stability, IGP Egbetokun directed the Deputy Inspector-General of Police in charge of Operations, Kwazhi Dali Yakubu, to take over command of police activities in Plateau State. The DIG has since embarked on aerial surveillance missions over affected communities in Bokkos and Bassa, and is engaging with local stakeholders as part of a confidence-building initiative.
Following a strategic review of the security situation, the IGP also ordered the immediate deployment of additional personnel and operational resources to enhance rapid response capabilities and bolster patrols in high-risk zones.
Police units are currently conducting ground assessments to ensure strategic deployment of security assets across flashpoints. These measures, the Force said, aim to prevent further violence and re-establish public confidence in state security efforts.
The IGP reassured residents of the Force’s unwavering commitment to restoring peace and order across Plateau State. He urged citizens to remain calm and cooperative with law enforcement, and to share any credible information that could assist ongoing investigations.
“The Inspector-General of Police extends his deepest condolences to the families of the victims and stands in solidarity with the people of Plateau State during this difficult time,” the statement concluded.
The Nigeria Police Force reiterated its resolve to bring all perpetrators to justice and safeguard the lives and property of Nigerians in the region.
