Obi Cubana Scolds Son for ‘Disrespecting’ Peter Obi, Urges Youth to Respect Elders

Popular Nigerian businessman and nightlife entrepreneur, Obinna Iyiegbu, better known as Obi Cubana, has publicly addressed his son’s recent online remarks allegedly aimed at former Labour Party presidential candidate, Peter Obi.

In a viral post circulating across social media platforms, Obi Cubana was expressed disappointment in his son for what he described as “disrespectful” behavior towards the respected statesman.

Though the specific content of the son’s statement was not made public, the incident has sparked wide reactions online, with many praising Cubana for prioritizing values over loyalty.

Taking to his Instagram stories shortly after the incident gained attention, Obi Cubana issued a broader statement urging young Nigerians and content creators to desist from glorifying or promoting disrespect toward elders, particularly on social media.

“Dear blogs, please stop giving visibility to youth insulting elders! You enable them! We can’t continue to enable rubbish!!! Stop, please,” he wrote.
The message is seen by many as a veiled reference to growing online discourse where public figures and political leaders are frequently criticized—sometimes harshly—by younger internet users.

Obi Cubana emphasized that while freedom of expression is important, it should not come at the cost of cultural values such as respect for elders.

This public reprimand of his own child has been viewed by some as a powerful example of parenting with integrity, especially in an era where many celebrities are often seen shielding their children from public accountability.

Although Peter Obi has not publicly commented on the matter, associates close to him are said to have appreciated Obi Cubana’s gesture, calling it “a demonstration of responsible leadership in the home.”

The incident reignites conversations about digital conduct, intergenerational respect, and the influence of prominent figures in shaping youth behavior in Nigeria’s evolving social media space.
