Newcastle Boss Eddie Howe Hospitalized with Pneumonia, May Miss Subsequent Games

Newcastle United boss Eddie Howe was hospitalized towards the end of last week with pneumonia.
The 47-year-old was hospitalized for a few days of illness. He will therefore be absent for the subsequent two Premier League matches against Crystal Palace and Aston Villa.
Howe sat out Newcastle’s 4-1 victory at Manchester United on Saturday, when the club bagged their first league double against United since 1930-31. They were assisted on the bench by assistant managers Graeme Jones and Jason Tindall, and they will similarly be in control for the coming series of fixtures.
In a club statement, Howe expressed gratitude to fans and the football fraternity for the well wishes and support, and to NHS staff for the treatment. “A big thank you to all those associated with Newcastle United and the broader football community for your messages and warm wishes. They have meant a lot to me and my family,” he said. “I’d also like to thank our fantastic NHS and the diligent hospital staff who have looked after me. I’m extremely grateful for the specialist care I’m receiving and, after a period of convalescence, I’m looking forward to being back as soon as possible.”
Since 2021, Newcastle United has recorded significant milestones under the guidance of Howe, including winning the League Cup off Liverpool in March 2025 and ending 70 years of waiting for a domestic trophy. The team is currently fourth in the Premier League standings with 56 points, which positions them as a strong contender for Champions League qualification.
The club has extended its best wishes to Howe and his family during his recovery. Further updates on Howe’s condition and return to managerial duties will be provided by the club in due course.
