FG Announces Improved Power Grid Stability with Additional 700MW Transmission Boost

The Federal Government has announced an addition of 700 megawatts transmission capacitor on the grid which will help in stabilising it to forestall frequent grid collapses.

This achievement, according to government officials, is attributed to the recent installation of an additional 700 megawatts (MW) in transmission capacity.

In a statement released over the weekend, the government highlighted the upgrade as a critical step toward addressing Nigeria’s long-standing electricity challenges.

The enhancement is expected to reduce frequent grid collapses and improve electricity distribution across the country.

“This development is part of our ongoing efforts to strengthen the power infrastructure and ensure a more reliable and efficient electricity supply for Nigerians. With the additional 700MW transmission capacity, the grid can now better accommodate the rising electricity demands from homes, industries, and businesses,” the statement said.

The move is seen as part of a broader energy reform strategy aimed at modernizing the national grid and attracting investment in the power sector. Analysts have praised the development, noting that consistent improvements in grid stability are crucial for economic growth and industrialization.

The government also reiterated its commitment to expanding energy access and accelerating the transition to a more robust and sustainable power system in the coming years.

The government also reaffirmed its partnership with local and international stakeholders to drive further investments in power generation, transmission, and distribution, with the ultimate goal of achieving energy security and supporting economic growth.

Industry experts have welcomed the development, noting that boosting transmission capacity is vital for unlocking the potential of existing and future power generation plants
