NDLEA Worries over Increased Use of Marijuana, Variants in Oyo State

The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) in Oyo State has raised concerns over the growing consumption of cannabis and its potent variants, commonly referred to as “loud,” in the region.

The agency’s concerns were highlighted by Commander Olayinka Joe-Fadile during a recent joint operation involving the Lagos, Ogun, and Oyo commands, which resulted in the destruction of over 1.6 million kilograms of illicit drugs.

According to Commander Joe-Fadile, the rise of synthetic cannabis variants, such as Scottish Loud, Canadian Loud, and Arizona Loud, has become a significant challenge in the region.

These potent strains are not only more expensive than traditional cannabis but also pose a greater danger to users due to their high THC content.

The NDLEA’s concerns are not unfounded, as the consumption of these potent cannabis variants has been linked to a range of negative health effects, including increased risk of psychosis, anxiety, and depression.

Furthermore, the agency has noted that the production and distribution of these synthetic variants are often controlled by organized crime groups, which has led to a surge in drug-related violence and crime in the region.

The joint operation, which involved the destruction of over 1.6 million kilograms of illicit drugs, is a testament to the NDLEA’s commitment to combating the drug menace in the region.

However, Commander Joe-Fadile emphasized that more needs to be done to address the root causes of drug abuse and to prevent the spread of these potent cannabis variants.

The term “loud” refers to a type of cannabis that is known for its high THC content and potent effects.

These variants are often produced using advanced cultivation techniques and are designed to provide a more intense high than traditional cannabis. However, the production and distribution of these variants are often unregulated, which has led to a range of concerns over their safety and potency.

Some of the most popular “loud” cannabis variants include Scottish Loud, Canadian Loud, and Arizona Loud. These strains are highly sought after by cannabis users due to their intense effects, but they also pose a significant risk to users due to their high THC content.

The consumption of “loud” cannabis variants has been linked to a range of negative health effects, including increased risk of psychosis, anxiety, and depression. The high THC content in these variants can increase the risk of psychosis, particularly in individuals who are already vulnerable to mental health issues.

Furthermore, the intense effects of these variants can lead to increased anxiety and depression, particularly in individuals who are already prone to these conditions. The production and distribution of these variants are often controlled by organized crime groups, which has led to a surge in drug-related violence and crime in the region.

To address the growing concern of “loud” cannabis variants, the NDLEA has called for a multi-faceted approach that involves education, prevention, and enforcement. The agency has emphasized the need for increased awareness about the dangers of these variants and the importance of preventing their spread.

Some of the measures that can be taken to address the issue include education and awareness, prevention, and treatment and rehabilitation. By educating the public about the dangers of “loud” cannabis variants and the importance of preventing their spread, we can reduce the demand for these variants and prevent the negative health effects and social problems associated with their consumption.

Additionally, increasing surveillance and enforcement can help to prevent the production and distribution of these variants, while providing treatment and rehabilitation services to individuals who are struggling with addiction to these variants can help to reduce the harm caused by their consumption.

The rise of “loud” cannabis variants is a growing concern in Oyo State, and it requires a multi-faceted approach to address the issue. By working together, we can prevent the spread of these potent cannabis variants and reduce the negative health effects and social problems associated with their consumption.
