NCC Spokesman, Reuben Muoka, Bows Out After Years of Service

Mr. Reuben Muoka, the long-serving Director of Public Affairs (DPA) at the Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC), has retired after many years of dedicated service to the commission and the nation.
A veteran Information and Communication Technology (ICT) journalist and public relations professional, Mr. Muoka’s departure marks the end of an era for the regulatory body.
Mr. Muoka joined the NCC approximately 18 years ago, transitioning from his role as the Hi-Tech Editor at Vanguard Newspapers. His expertise and dedication led to his promotion to the position of Director of Public Affairs on June 20, 2022. In this role, he served as the key spokesperson for the NCC, navigating the dynamic landscape of Nigeria’s telecommunications industry.
During his tenure at the NCC, Mr. Muoka served under several key figures, including former Director of Public Affairs, Mr. Tony Ojobo, and took over from Dr. Ikechulkwu Adinde. He also held significant roles such as Head of Media and Public Relations from 2009 to 2015.
His career at the NCC also saw him contribute to the special duties and economic policy and analysis departments.
Prior to his impactful years at the NCC, Mr. Muoka had a distinguished career in the media and communications sector. At Vanguard Newspapers, he played a crucial role in shaping the publication’s coverage of the burgeoning ICT sector, working alongside Mr. Okoh Aihe, who also recently retired from the NCC. His career trajectory also includes a stint at MTS First Mobile, a pioneering mobile communication company in Nigeria, where he served as Corporate Affairs Manager.
Academically, Mr. Muoka holds first and second degrees in Mass Communication, underscoring his deep understanding of the principles of communication and public relations. His commitment to professional development is further highlighted by his past chairmanship of the League of Communications Correspondents, a body established in 1988 to foster professionalism among ICT journalists in Nigeria.
The NCC is yet to announce Mr. Muoka’s successor. His contributions to the commission’s public image and the wider telecommunications industry in Nigeria will undoubtedly be remembered. He is married and has children.
