I Never Had Sex with Angelo in Big Brother Africa, Clarifies Beverly Osu

Nigerian model and actress, Beverly Osu has once more responded to repeated public rumor during her time on the 2013 season of Big Brother Africa: The Chase, affirming that as much as everyone likes to think so, she and fellow housemate Angelo Collins never had sex on the show.
In an open interview with media personality Chude Jideonwo, Beverly discussed the decade-long rumors that have followed her.
She lamented how the public seemed fixated on her on-screen romance with Angelo, ignoring her overall performance and growth throughout the show.
“I didn’t do it [have sex on reality show],” she said. “I was 20… I brought out so many things from Big Brother other than that [my relationship with Angelo]. I was so irritated because that was the only thing viewers picked — because I was in love.”
Beverly and South African roommate Angelo Collins had one of the most talked about relationships in the 2013 season of Big Brother Africa, and fans speculated that the two may have had a sexual encounter under the bathtub — an experience that was the subject of massive media hype.
However, Beverly insists that what was misconstrued as sex was misinterpreted by camera angles and common assumptions.
“I didn’t sleep with Angelo. I was under the bathtub, but we never actually had sex. Maybe the camera did make it seem that way,” she explained in a past 2013 interview.
Angelo himself brushed off the claims at the time, explaining to an interviewer that he and Beverly were “just kissing” and affirming again that he had promised his mom not to have sex on the show.
Despite the public display of affection by the couple, Beverly maintains that her relocation was motivated by genuine emotions rather than wantonness or need for attention.
“I was in love with Angelo. I was so much in love with him that I was free with him. I was dating na, make we tie gele? I was in love with him,” she declared, descending into sarcasm in order to prove that her freedom in love was misunderstood by many.
Now a established actress and public figure, Beverly concedes she’s gone beyond the scandal, but still feels that it is necessary to put the record straight and shed light on the issues of being young, vulnerable and in the public eye on reality television.
Her statement is a reminder of the manner in which public scrutiny distorts reality and influences the lives of those under the public microscope — especially when filtered through the prism of judgment and sensationalism.
