Gov. Oborevwori Emerges 2024 Vanguard Newspaper’s Governor of the Year

Delta State Governor, Rt. Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori, has won the Vanguard Newspaper’s Governor of the Year 2024 award for his hard work in upholding good governance, impactful leadership, and state-changing programs across the state.

The award was given at the 13th Annual Vanguard Personality of the Year Awards held in Lagos, which recognizes people who have excelled in public service, infrastructure growth, economic change, and people-oriented leadership.

Oborevwori received the award for his “MORE” agenda—an acronym for Meaningful Development, Opportunities for All, Realistic Reforms, and Enhanced Peace and Security—that has driven rapid implementation of strategic projects and reforms in Delta State.

When he accepted the award, Governor Oborevwori made public genuine gratitude to the people of Delta State for the ongoing trust placed in him, noting that the award is just as much theirs as his administration’s.

He re-emphasized his determination to deliver even larger dividends of democracy.

Vanguard’s editorial board lauded Oborevwori’s leadership as “purpose‑driven and people‑focused,” highlighting significant achievements in road construction, education, healthcare, youth empowerment, and enhanced security initiatives under his tenure.

The accolade has been received across the board by political players and Deltans. PDP leader from Ika South Local Government Area, Comrade Dennis Araro, described the honor as “eminently deserved,” citing the governor’s steadfast leadership in the midst of Nigeria’s volatile political and economic climate.

With less than two years into his first term, Governor Oborevwori’s administration has completed key infrastructure projects and introduced reforms aimed at boosting economic growth and improving living standards—milestones that underpinned his selection as Governor of the Year.
