Glamorous Nigerian Pastor Tobi Adegboyega Allegedly Used AI to Create False Luxurious Lifestyle

Controversial Nigerian pastor and SPAC Nation founder, Tobi Adegboyega has sparked public interest with claims that he employed the services of artificial intelligence (AI) to produce photographs of a prosperous lifestyle.

This followed a social media video clip of the pastor stepping out of a £580,000 Lamborghini Revuelto, triggering a deluge of comments and investigations from the social media platform.

The controversy began when a TikTok user, named @ihatebenn_, posted a commentary on the popular video, stating that the video appeared to be digitally manipulated. The user compared inconsistencies in the background, such as the highly rendered Jeep and glitches like the legs of bodyguards momentarily disappearing — both spoken of as potential signs of AI production or post-production.

These revelations soon went viral on social media, where the majority questioned whether the pastor’s extravagant lifestyle, which had been posted repeatedly on social media, had been constructed in virtual form in an effort to maintain a celebrity profile.

The suspicion was met with Pastor Tobi Adegboyega, who took to social media to quell the allegations, mocking suggestions that artificial intelligence had fabricated his lifestyle.

“TikTok is going to create the next group of dummies,” he proclaimed in a video, adding, “We don’t need to edit or AI a G-Wagon.”

The pastor maintained that the truck and scene were actual and did not condone the viral accusations as baseless and absurd efforts to discredit him.

Pastor Adegboyega, notorious for his flaunting attire, luxury cars, and celebrity romance, is not unknown to scandals. He was once probed in the United Kingdom over fraud crimes worth £1.87 million and also faced deportation proceedings after the UK government raised financial impropriety concerns over SPAC Nation’s operations.

Although he still maintains a huge following both locally and internationally, these recent accusations have further tainted his public image.

This incident has spurred new discussion about ramping up the use of AI programs to alter images and videos, especially in the realm of influencer culture and online branding. Experts have warned that deepfakes and AI-created media pose serious ethical and societal risks, including the ability to deceive followers and fake riches or status.

To this point, no formal investigation has been launched into the authenticity of the video. Nevertheless, the incident has helped to spur a wider call for transparency and digital literacy, particularly in the context of media viewed online.

Whether or not AI was indeed involved, the backlash reflects a broader skepticism of online personas — and in this case, one tied to religion, finance, and online influence.
