Davido’s Father, Dr. Adeleke, Clinches Vanguard Man of the Year Award for Role in Power Sector

Eminent businessman and philanthropist, Dr. Adedeji Adeleke, was yesterday conferred with Vanguard Man of the Year Award for his exemplary work in Nigeria’s power sector.

The high society award was presented at the 2024 Vanguard Personality of the Year Awards, which held at Eko Hotels and Suites, Victoria Island, Lagos.

Dr. Adeleke, father of internationally acclaimed Afrobeat star Davido (David Adeleke), was honored for his innovative efforts in energy infrastructure and powering sustainable development through Pacific Holdings Limited, where he serves as Chairman.

Dr. Adeleke, via his company Pacific Energy Limited, has been leading the evolution of Nigeria’s power generation and supply. The company, under his leadership, currently supplies an estimated 15% of Nigeria’s overall power supply and is one of the most commanding players in Nigeria’s energy industry.

One of his most ambitious ventures is the completion of a $2 billion thermal power plant, which upon commissioning will be the largest privately-owned power plant in Nigeria. The project, according to experts, has the potential to transform energy availability in the country and boost industrial production.

The Vanguard Personality of the Year Awards is an annual event organized by Vanguard Newspapers to recognize Nigerians who have recorded exceptional achievements in national development, public service, and business.

Dr. Adeleke’s selection places him in the illustrious ranks of governors, entrepreneurs, and technocrats who have been celebrated for their visionary leadership and significant contributions.

The other award recipients at the occasion included Osun State Governor, Governor Ademola Adeleke, Imo State Governor, Governor Hope Uzodinma, and Anambra State Governor, Governor Charles Soludo, among others.

Dr. Adeleke, a strong advocate of private sector-led development, has over the years demonstrated a high level of commitment to national development through investment in various key sectors that range from energy, education, real estate, and philanthropy. He is also the founder of Adeleke University, Ede, Osun State, a private university committed to the provision of quality and affordable education.

Dr. Adeleke, in his address at the award ceremony, thanked the organizers for the recognition and rededicated himself to nation-building and innovation in the energy industry.

\t”This recognition is a challenge to do more. We believe in Nigeria’s potential, and we will continue to invest in her growth,” he said.

With Nigeria still struggling with power generation and distribution, industry observers believe Dr. Adeleke’s consistent investment in large-scale energy projects is a step in the direction of a more effective and stable power sector.

His Vanguard Man of the Year award is not just a personal honor but a symbolic recognition of the role of visionary private sector operators in building the future of Nigeria.
