Breaking News: Develop Your Land Within Two Years or Lose it, Wike Directs in FCT

The Federal Capital Territory Administration (FCTA) has given a new development Directive which Prescribes development of alloted lands in the FCT within two years or have it revoked.
the directive by Minister of FCT, Nyesom Wikel includes a new regulation empowering the government to reclaim land allocations left undeveloped for two years post-issuance of Rights of Occupancy.
At a press conference held in Abuja on Friday, Chijioke Nwankwoeze, Director of Land Administration within the FCTA, detailed the forthcoming adjustments. He confirmed the new regulations will be fully implemented starting April 21, 2025.
The comprehensive changes are designed to modernize and streamline land processes, covering a wide spectrum of areas. These encompass the requirements for securing Statutory Rights of Occupancy, the precise provisions within the governing legislation, and the structure of official correspondence regarding land offer approvals or rejections.
The reforms also prioritize simplifying the documentation workflow for extensive housing developments and provide a pathway to legitimize land records originating from Area Councils.
Nwankwoeze explained that a key flaw in the previous system was the absence of clearly defined payment schedules for associated dues, rents, and charges within the Statutory Right of Occupancy documentation.
Crucially, there was also no provision for sanctions or consequences related to delayed financial commitments. This deficiency, he stated, has now been addressed to ensure greater accountability and efficiency in land administration within the FCT.
The administration anticipates these new measures will unlock valuable land resources and accelerate development within the capital territory.
