PDP in Shambles as Tofowomo Accuses Party Leaders of Deception, Betrayal

The crisis in the Ondo State branch of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) has
festered, as Senator Nicholas Tofowomo unleashed a verbal tirade against the party leadership for being “betrayers”.
The fiery senator unleashed the verbal tirade following the resignation of the party spokesman, Kennedy Peretei, who said he was offered the state chairmanship job but was later rebuffed.
Tofowomo’s tirade against the party leadership is a manifestation of the PDP’s internal politics, with the senator accusing them of playing politics with Peretei and having betrayed his trust.
“The party leadership should apologize to Peretei for playing politics with him and for betraying him. The leadership had previously invited Peretei to express interest in the party chairpersonship. If it wasn’t the leadership who asked him to express interest, I would not have been so aggrieved,” he fumed.
The senator’s words have set off a fresh bout of scandal within the party since most individuals asked questions about the leadership’s integrity and commitment to transparency. The words of Tofowomo are significant given his position within the party and the fact that he is an esteemed leader.
The PDP’s poor performance in the recent elections, in which the party lost all 18 local governments, has been one of the contentious issues.
Tofowomo has defended his own record on the grounds that he is a “bona fide member of the PDP” and has paid his dues.
“Am I to be blamed for PDP’s failure in other wards, including that of Ajayi? Was it not on record that the candidate of the party did not even win his ward?” he challenged rhetorically.
The senator’s blanket criticism of the party leadership has raised eyebrows, with everybody wondering what else the PDP could be hiding. As the crisis deepens, only time will tell how the party responds to Tofowomo’s allegations and if the leadership will move to allay the fears he has raised.
One thing is certain, however: the PDP in Ondo State is in disarray, and it will take more than words to mend the party’s credibility and cohesion.
