Ekiti Command Order Probe of Officer’s Alleged Assault of Civilian over Girlfriend
The Ekiti State Command has ordered an investigation into the matter of a police officer stabbing a civilian in Ise-Ekiti after an altercation over a trivial dispute involving his girlfriend and the victim’s son.
The incident, as showng in a trending video, has evoked widespread anger and demands for justice.
According to the victim’s daughter, the officer, who is an orderly stormed into their home and assaulted her father after being informed of a fight between his girlfriend and the victim’s son.
The officer allegedly informed him that he was arriving to arrest him but, in turn, stabbed the victim in the palm.
The Ekiti State Police Command has acted swiftly, with the Commissioner of Police, CP Joseph Eribo, ordering the Deputy Commissioner of Police, Criminal Investigation Department, to take over the case and investigate diligently.
The suspect officer has been arrested pending the outcome of the investigation.
In a statement, the command’s spokesperson SP Abutu Sunday assured the people that justice would be served, saying, “The command is calling on everybody, especially members of the victim’s family, to remain calm, as nothing short of justice will be delivered in this case as soon as possible.”
The incident has raised heated arguments regarding police brutality and demands for the police force to be held accountable. The Ekiti State Police Command vowed that the officer would be held accountable for what he has done and the victim receives justice as is due to him.
Although the investigation is still underway, the command has urged the public not to panic but to allow the law to take its course.
