Bode George Dismisses APC as No Party but Running One Man Show

Bode George, a veteran Nigerian politician and former Deputy National Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), has lamented that parties in Nigeria lack robust political structure, describing even the All Progressives Congress, APC “one-man show” that prioritizes individual interests over collective governance.

George made the remarks during an appearance on Channels Television’s Morning Brief on Wednesday, April 9, 2025, which underscore the deep-seated concerns about the state of Nigerian politics and the potential emergence of a third political force ahead of the 2027 general elections.

According to George, the APC’s failure to establish a cohesive structure has severely undermined its effectiveness, leading to a dominant culture of individualism that threatens the very foundations of democratic governance.

He argued that a political party’s primary objective should be to serve the people, rather than catering to the whims of a select few.

George’s critique is rooted in his long-held belief that people-focused political systems are essential for Nigeria’s development and prosperity.

The veteran politician warned that the APC’s approach to governance, which he described as “flawed and dangerous,” has far-reaching consequences for the country.

By prioritizing individual ambitions over collective interests, the party has created an environment in which decision-making is often driven by personal agendas rather than the greater good.

This, George contended, has resulted in a lack of accountability, poor governance, and a general sense of disillusionment among the Nigerian people.

George’s comments also touched on the need for a viable alternative to the APC, one that would prioritize the welfare of the people and operate within a framework of transparency and accountability.

He emphasized that any new political force must be built on a foundation of strong institutions, rather than relying on the charisma of individual leaders. By doing so, George argued, Nigeria can begin to build a more robust and sustainable democratic system, one that is capable of delivering tangible benefits to its citizens.

The emergence of a third political force, George suggested, could be a game-changer for Nigerian politics. He envisioned a scenario in which a new party, unencumbered by the baggage of the past, could bring a fresh perspective to governance, one that is driven by a commitment to the people rather than personal interests.

However, George cautioned that such a development would require careful planning, strategic thinking, and a deep understanding of the complexities of Nigerian politics.

Ultimately, George’s critique of the APC serves as a clarion call for Nigerian politicians to re-examine their priorities and recommit to the principles of democratic governance. By prioritizing the welfare of the people and building strong, inclusive institutions, Nigeria can begin to unlock its vast potential and build a brighter future for its citizens. As the country approaches the 2027 general elections, George’s comments serve as a timely reminder of the need for a new approach to politics, one that is driven by a deep commitment to the people and a vision for a better Nigeria.
