Four Lost in Dutse Abuja Crash 48 Hours After 36 Died on Same Spot

Barely 48 hours after a devastating crash claimed at least 36 lives in Dutse, Abuja, another tragic accident has occurred at the same spot, leaving at least four people dead and several others injured.

The latest incident has sparked widespread concern and outrage among residents, who are demanding urgent intervention from the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) to address the recurring tragedies.

Engineer Julius Olukunle, former chairman of Bmuko Zone F in Dutse, confirmed the latest incident to an online medium.

According to Olukunle, the truck lost control while descending from the Bwari axis and rammed into a cluster of motorcycles, tricycles, and other vehicles at the Dutse Tipper Garage Bus Stop.

“We lost so many lives,” he said, referring to a video showing four lifeless bodies.

The area has become a hotspot for fatal accidents, with no fewer than five major crashes recorded in the past year. While some accidents have caused only vehicular damage, the toll of human life is now staggering.

Olukunle noted that the Saturday incident claimed 36 lives, with only seven people surviving with permanent injuries.

Residents and community leaders in Bmuko are calling on the FCT Minister and road traffic authorities to immediately address the design flaws and uncontrolled traffic menace at the intersection.

The landlords’ association in the area is planning to meet with the Bwari Local Government chairman to seek immediate steps to forestall further deaths.

Olukunle appealed to the FCT Minister to come to their aid, stating that the best solution to the problem is to construct an overhead bridge at the junction.

Olukunle proposed that an overhead bridge would help to reduce the risk of accidents at the junction. “If there’s one, any vehicle coming from Usman Dam will go up, while those coming from Obasanjo Road and Bmuko will pass under.

That will help us a lot because we are losing so many souls now,” he said.

The community is demanding that the FCT Minister and road traffic authorities take immediate action to address the recurring tragedies. With two deadly accidents within 48 hours, residents are calling for urgent intervention to prevent further loss of life. The FCT Minister and relevant authorities must take swift action to address the design flaws and uncontrolled traffic menace at the intersection before more lives are lost.
