Natasha Osawaru Removed as Edo Assembly Minority Leader Due to Political, Personal Controversies

Natasha Irobosa Osawaru, the Egor Constituency legislator in the Edo State House of Assembly, has been removed from the position of Minority Leader.
This was due to both her increasing political profile and the personal controversies surrounding her.
Osawaru of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) is a key figure in the politics of Edo State. Prior to her removal, she served as the Deputy Majority Leader of the state assembly.
Osawaru graduated with a law degree from Igbinedion University and also earned a master’s degree in Fashion/Apparel Design from the highly regarded Parsons School of Design in New York.
However, her own brand of politics has not come without its set of Controversies as well.
Natasha recently found herself the focus of nationwide media buzz for having an affair with Nigerian music icon Innocent “2Baba” Idibia. Gossip began of Natasha’s having an affair with the musician following 2Baba public disclosure that he and his wife Annie Idibia had marital issues.
The artist, however, quickly debunked these reports stating that Natasha was not involved in his marriage problems and declaring his love for her in a public address. Despite his denial, the continuous publicity on her private life has perhaps had a tremendous impact on her political career.
In 2024, Natasha also participated in a controversial episode inside the assembly. Inside one of the house sessions, she was requested to withdraw from the proceedings because of concern over her clothes and wearing dark sunglasses. The incident stoked debate regarding her behavior and lawmakers’ expectations with regards to decorum.
Her removal as Minority Leader appears to be the culmination of party internal politics and external criticism. While official statements from the Edo State House of Assembly have not stated clear reasons for her removal, political observers are of the opinion that her personal scandals, particularly those related to her relationship with 2Baba, may have cost her her seat in the assembly.
The removal of Natasha from her position as Minority Leader is a turning point in her life. It is still to be observed how it will affect her future political career and whether or not she would be able to get over the hardships that trailed behind her uprise.
