Lightening Kills 8 Cows in Ondo Community

A devastating lightning strike has claimed the lives of eight cows in the Ori-Ohin community in Ifon, the headquarters of Ose Local Government Area of Ondo State.
The incident occurred on Sunday evening during a heavy downpour, leaving residents of the community in a state of panic.
According to eyewitnesses, the lightning strike was so powerful that it sent shockwaves throughout the community, causing widespread fear and anxiety among the residents.
The cows, which were grazing in a nearby field, were said to have been struck by the lightning, resulting in their instant death.
The spokesperson of the Ondo State Police Command, Olayinka Ayanlade, confirmed the incident to Channels Television in a telephone conversation.
“We are aware of the incident, and our preliminary investigation has confirmed that eight cows were killed by lightning during the heavy downpour on Sunday evening,” Ayanlade said.
Ayanlade expressed dismay at the unfortunate incident, noting that it was a natural occurrence that could not be prevented.
“We sympathize with the owners of the cows and the community at large over the incident. It’s a natural disaster that can happen to anyone, and we urge the residents to remain calm and go about their daily activities without fear,” he added.
The police spokesperson also revealed that the authorities have reached out to the community heads to ensure that the incident does not lead to controversy or unrest in the area.
“We have spoken to the community leaders, and they have assured us that they will work with us to ensure that the incident does not escalate into anything more serious,” Ayanlade said.
This is not the first time that a lightning strike has claimed the lives of cows in Ondo State. In 2019, a similar incident occurred in Ijare, Ifedore Local Government Area of the state, where thunder and lightning killed 36 cows on a hill in the community.
The incident had sparked widespread fear and anxiety among the residents, with many calling for measures to be put in place to prevent such incidents in the future.
