South Deserves to Retain Presidency in 2027 Given Tinubu’s Performance

Senator Neda Imasuen, representing Edo South Senatorial District on the platform of the Labour Party (LP), has commended President Bola Tinubu for his courageous leadership, stating that the South deserves to retain the presidency in 2027.

Imasuen made this statement during an interactive session with journalists in Benin City, the Edo State capital, over the weekend.

The senator, who chairs the Senate Committee on Ethics, Code of Conduct, and Public Petitions, expressed his admiration for President Tinubu’s strong courage in navigating the affairs of the nation, saying that he should be allowed a second term.

Imasuen, who is the only LP senator in Edo State, noted that the president has shown “unbelievable strong courage” in his leadership, particularly in his determination to conduct a census before the 2027 general elections, despite resistance from the North.

Imasuen also welcomed the recent Supreme Court judgment sacking Julius Abure as national chairman of the Labour Party, stating that Abure did not have the party’s interest at heart. He declared that Abure’s leadership had become “a personal thing” and that he had been “dragging LP in and out of court.” The senator expressed hope that the Supreme Court’s judgment would bring sanity to the party and potentially energize its members.

Regarding the 2027 presidential election, Imasuen stated that there is an “arrangement, whether written or unwritten,” that the North will do eight years, and the South will also do eight years. He expressed confidence that the North will eventually agree to allow the South to complete its eight years, just as they did during former President Muhammadu Buhari’s tenure.

Imasuen praised President Tinubu for his courage in pushing for a census, despite opposition from the North. He noted that the president’s determination to conduct a census is a significant step towards ensuring accurate population figures in Nigeria, rather than relying on estimates.
