Fani Kayode Posted to Afghanistan; Femi Pedro, Others Make Ambassadorial as DSS Screens Nominees
The Federal Government of Nigeria has embarked on a screening process for Ambassadorial nominees, including former Minister of Aviation Femi Fani-Kayode who sources said may be posted to Afghanistan and former Deputy Governor of Lagos State Femi Pedro.
Sources said the former Aviation Minister is being cleared to be sent to the Islamic country.
This vetting process is aimed at filling key diplomatic positions across Nigeria’s vast network of 109 missions worldwide, comprising 76 embassies, 22 high commissions, and 11 consulates.
The screening exercise, which involves thorough security checks conducted by the Department of State Services (DSS), is being carried out in a decentralized manner.
Nominees are required to report to the DSS offices nearest to their locations, ensuring a convenient and efficient process. Sources close to the matter have confirmed that the screening is currently ongoing, with a final list of cleared candidates expected to be released by the end of April 2025.
