Governor Otu Back to Work Ahead of Two Weeks Leave Extension

Cross River State Governor Bassey Otu has officially returned to work two weeks before the expiration of his leave extension recently approved by the State House of Assembly.

According to a statement released Friday by his Chief Press Secretary, Nsa Gill, Governor Otu resumed duties after a three-week vacation that began on March 11, 2025.

He has informed the Speaker of the House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Elvert Ayambem, of his decision to cut short the leave.

Gill stated that a change in the governor’s schedule, specifically being appointed Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC) gubernatorial primary election in Anambra State, prompted his early return. He is currently in Awka, Anambra State, overseeing the primary election scheduled for Saturday, April 5, 2025.

The governor reaffirmed his commitment to the development of Cross River State, stating that state matters “take precedence over any personal time away.” He anticipates a renewed focus on development initiatives and policy implementation following his return.

The State House of Assembly had approved the two-week extension on April 4th, following a formal request from the Clerk, but Governor Otu’s return signals a swift resumption of duties.
