Breaking News: Umeoji Drops Out of Anambra APC Primaries

The All Progressives Congress (APC) governorship primary election in Anambra State will go ahead with six candidates, after Chukwuma Umeoji unexpectedly stepped down last week, days before the Saturday poll.
The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) had earlier scheduled the APC primaries for March 20th to April 10th, 2025 and used the period for selection of its candidate for the November 8th, 2025 Anambra state gubernatorial election.
The new opponents will be Prof. Obiora Okonkwo, Nicholas Ukachukwu, Paul Chukwuma, Onunkwo Johnbisco Obinna, Valentine Ozigbo and Edozie Madu. Nine of them will stand today Saturday for the party ticket as they compete to decide who will win the APC nomination in next month’s general election.
The withdrawal was officially announced by Felix Morka, the National Publicity Secretary of the APC. Other than blaming Umeoji for his decision, Morka, speaking in an interview on Sunday, said he hoped the remaining candidates would still be part of the party and expressed optimism over its chances in November.
“We welcome Mr. Umeoji’s decision and thank him for having been a part of the process, ” Morka said. “We are happy to hear him make a show of support and advocacy towards the success of the party’s gubernatorial candidate in the November 8th 2025 Anambra state election.”
The withdrawal of a leading figure in Anambra state politics, Umeoji, could shake up the electoral dynamics and analysts have begun gauging how his supporters will align with other contenders.
