3 Dead, Many Injured as 12 Passengers are Kidnapped in Benue Links Bus Attack
An attack on a Benue Links Nigeria Limited bus has left at least three people dead and several others injured in a brutal kidnapping incident near Otukpo Burnt Bricks, Otukpo Local Government Area of Benue State.
The 18-seater bus was ambushed by heavily armed gunmen on Thursday evening, resulting in the fatal shooting of the driver, Mr. Samuel Agege, and a front-seat passenger.
The attackers abducted the remaining passengers, though three individuals managed to escape, and another had disembarked earlier at Taraku town before the incident occurred.
Upon receiving reports of the attack, the Benue State Police Command, in collaboration with the Benue State Civil Protection Guard, swiftly launched a rescue operation.
Security forces engaged the kidnappers in a gun battle, successfully rescuing 14 victims. However, two of the rescued individuals sustained machete cut injuries, and one later succumbed to the wounds, raising the death toll to three.
Authorities have since intensified efforts to track down the attackers and ensure the safety of travelers in the region.
The Benue State Police Command has urged residents to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activities.
The management of Benue Links Nigeria Limited has expressed its condolences to the families of the deceased and assured the public of their commitment to supporting efforts aimed at securing the release of any remaining captives.
